This summer retreat will begin place in Aix-en-Provence, where we will explore the Cezanne museum and provencal markets. We will then travel to the Pyrenees for pottery lessons and cooking classes from local artisans. This region has inspired some of the greatest Impressionist artists in the world. Come find out why.
*Note: This retreat will be offered with support from Texas State University. Teachers may be eligible for professional development opportunities.
Day 1: Meet in Aix-en-Provence in the afternoon (it's recommended to fly in to Marseille airport the day before so you have time to adjust). Discuss creative intentions and share dinner in a local
Day 2: Explore the markets of Aix-en-Provence, sketching and writing on location as we wander the labyrinth of streets.
Day 3: Visit Cezanne's studio and explore the landscape that inspired the great painter.
Day 4: Visit Granet Museum to see Impressionist masterpieces created in the region.
Day 5: Train to Py, stopping in Villefranche de Confluence along the way to explore a walled medieval city.
Day 6: Relax and explore the village of Py. Learn French cooking from a local epicerie owner.
Day 7: Hike through a nature reserve, drawing sketches from nature.
Day 8: Visit a nearby town for pastries and a French day spa.
Day 9: Learn to throw pottery with a local Py potter. Visit a nearby dairy farm to see how cheese is made (with samples of course)
Day 10: Travel back to Perpignan for a celebratory dinner together.
Day 11: Breakfast together before you depart.
*Note: this retreat ends in Perpignan, but begins in Aix, outside of Marseille. If you wish to travel on from Perpignan, you can do so, but if you prefer, we can help you return to Marseille.
