The Spanish countryside and the French Pyrenees are dazzlingly beautiful places that have inspired many great artists and writers. Come see why. We will focus on small towns, local agriculture, mountains, and the sea in this trip centered on drawing inspiration from nature. Explore a cobblestoned labyrinth of streets; paint or write on location by the sea; and learn to make French pastries from a local chef. Share your work with other writers and artists, and receive feedback and guidance on your own creative work.
Itinerary May 14-24, 2022
May 14th: Retreat begins in the evening. Make your own way to the hotel, or request transfer for additional fee. We'll celebrate with a Spanish tapas dinner and set creative intentions.
May 15th: Take a Writer's and Artist's walking tour of Barcelona. Visit Gaudí's great masterpiece La Sagrada, the food market, and marvel at the magic fountain at night.
May 16th: Creative work and exploration. Optional visit to Parc Guell. Meet in the evening to share.
May 17th: After breakfast, depart for a 12th century olive farm, hosted by Dolors, whose Catalan family has worked this land for generations.
May 18th: Creative time and exploration of the village, Galliners, a local church, and countryside. Work on your creative projects and meet in the evening to share a traditional meal prepared by our host.
May 19th: Hike around the gorgeous Mediterranean fishing village of Cadaqués to visit Dalí's seaside home, and enjoy fresh seafood and views over the stunning turquoise water. You can swim, explore, or find a quiet place to write.
May 20th: Drive across the border into the Pyrenees, to Py, France, a village at the edge of a nature preserve where we'll be hosted by Delphine and Jonathan who run a small épicerie.
May 21st: We will take cooking classes with a local French pastry chef and our host Delphine, learning to make traditional French food with fresh ingredients. Past options have included crepes, quiche, and eclairs. Afterwards, we'll share the meal together on a balcony.
May 22nd: You have the option of a pottery class, hiking in a reserve, and/or visiting a local dairy farm.
May 23rd: We will travel to Perpignan for dinner at a seaside restaurant to celebrate and share.
May 24th: Breakfast and departures.
*The retreat ends in Perpignan, but we can help with travel back to Barcelona or along the French Riviera.
